 Unconditional
Solidarity 2026

Untitled+design-2.png

My dream is to see hundreds of people gathered under the towering pine trees where the macaws nest, holding their hands out and hearts open in solidarity to the biotic community so that witness may be given and life may be guarded.

- Rev. Dr. LoraKim Joyner

One Earth Conservation has been collaborating with the communities of La Moskitia since 2010. Remarkable successes have been achieved – over a thousand macaw nests have been protected that would have otherwise been illegally poached, hundreds of rescued parrots have been returned to the wild, community members have earned livelihoods and grown their capacity to manage and conserve their territory, and a parrot sanctuary has been established. Unfortunately, the poaching pressure seems to only be increasing, and only constant patrolling and camping keep the poaching rate to about 20% of all active nests.

The long-term survivability of these parrots is tenuous. International demand for pets fuels the illegal activity. Special interests increasingly illegally clear indigenous land. Rev. Dr. LoraKim Joyner, after 15 years, realizes that something more transformative and radical needs to occur. To open possibilities of a permanent and lasting shift away from ecosystem degradation and the loss of biodiversity, she will journey to Honduras in 2026 to witness to be in unconditional solidarity with the people and parrots.

LoraKim Joyner plans to listen deeply to the people and to join them in their patrols and nightly camping near macaw nests. Her goal is to make a vibrant and intense public demonstration. You can also join online as we hear from the people, get daily bird reports, discuss what unconditional solidarity looks like and how we can manifest it, and become an agent of the local conservationists in any way you can. You can help from home by spreading the message on social media of Unconditional Solidarity and what is happening to the parrots and people of La Moskitia, donating, and joining Facebook Live and Zoom meetings to explore themes, spiritual practices, talk to the local people, and get updates. We ask for your solidarity with the people and parrots of this region.

In a novel by LoraKim Joyner, "Prion," she explores what Unconditional Solidarity looks like in parrot conservation, and specifically in La Moskitia, Honduras. The book demonstrates her vision for how we can have greater well-being if we know that none are free until all are free. Online events will include:

  • Bird Report: Update on nest activity and birds seen

  • Voices from the Field: Listening to and asking questions of conservationists in the field

  • Conversation and Exploration:  Exploring themes of unconditional solidarity and transformation

  • Practices for Solidarity: Connecting to nature and to one another

  • Conservation in Action: Working to protect nests and care for birds at the rescue center

This campaign includes an in-person event in La Moskitia, Honduras, and a series of online live programs from February-August 2026. Some programs will be streamed on YouTube, while others will be broadcast on Facebook Live.

We have created banners, posters, videos and graphics in Google Drive that you may use to show your solidarity with the people and parrots of Honduras. Please share any of these materials to your social networks, newsletters, and beyond. No attribution is needed. Throughout this campaign, we will also periodically post news, schedules, and resources to our Updates page.  The best way to get updates and to be aware of live programming, is to check our social media pages and to join one of the WhatsAp groups below.
