During March and April, in La Moskitia, Honduras, conservation became more than just a temporary effort. It became a deeply human experience.

I just spent 9.5 weeks, camping with the Indigenous parrot conservationists in La Moskitia, Honduras. I did this for many reasons, but primarily to witness oppressions threatening the people and people there, and to practice Unconditional Solidarity.

It’s been about a month since I blogged about our Unconditional Solidarity Campaign in Honduras and what a month it’s been! To date, our very committed team has identified and protected 114 active scarlet macaw nests in La Moskitia, although, unfortunately, 21 nests have been poached. On the brighter side, that number has held steady since April 13 (that is, no new nests have been poached).

On the Atlantic coast of Guatemala, the breeding season of the yellow-headed parrot (Amazona oratrix) is one of the most significant and crucial times of the year. It is a period when life begins quietly inside the parrots’ nests, while fieldwork increases to protect this fragile and important process.

React to those close to you, and move intimately, creatively and rapidly. Together, your mini-flock learns and influences the greater flock and the world. We do not know where we will land in the future, but we know we will do it beautifully and not alone.
