Interdependence Weekend Zen and Bird Retreat

You are Invited!

July 3 at 5pm EDT to July 5, 2026 at 12pm EDT

Winnsboro, South Carolina

For this weekend we will be emphasizing how our interdependnce with each other, other species, and Earth's systems call forth from us a commitment to Unconditional Solidarity as a path for societal and individual transformation. In this age of extinction, ecosystem collapse, and dysfunctional politics, Zen and birding offer two ways to cultivate our spirits and connect us to wellsprings of peace and hope.

COUNT PARROTS BECAUSE THEY COUNT ON US!

You are Invited!

From July 13-August 15, 2026, parrot conservationists will be conducting an island-wide parrot population count on Ometepe Island, Nicaragua. You can be part of this activity for one day or for as many days as you’d like. You will have the chance to meet and work with local conservationists, learn how to do parrot conservation, and enjoy the beauty of this volcanic island.

Unconditional Solidarity Campaign 2026

This includes an in person event in La Moskitia, Honduras and a series of online live programs from February to August 2026.

One Earth Conservation has been collaborating with the communities of La Moskitia, Honduras since 2010 and remarkable successes have been achieved. However,  poaching pressure seems to only be increasing, and only constant patrolling and camping keeps the poaching rate to about 20% of all active nests.  Rev. Dr. LoraKim Joyner will journey there in 2026 to be in unconditional solidarity with the people and parrots.  She will listen deeply to the people and join them in their patrols and nightly camping near macaw nests.  Her goal is to make a vibrant and intense public demonstration and asks for your help by joining her in person or online.

ZEN AND BIRD MONTHLY
IN-PERSON RETREAT

Saturdays starting at 9:00 a.m. and finishing Sundays at 12 p.m

February 21, 2026)

Sit. Bird.

In this age of extinction, ecosystem collapse, and dysfunctional politics Zen and birding offer two ways to cultivate our spirits and connect us to wellsprings of peace and hope.

During our time together we will introduce Zen practice and engage in nature and birding mindfulness exercises (journal, walk, reflect). You will experience nature and birds, learn about transformative conservation, and engage in caring for yourself and all beings. The principles and practices of nonviolent communication will also be discussed and practiced. Our goal is a restorative community, during our time together and for the future.

 SUNRISE BIRDING
FOR LIFE

A regular online event, usually on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, whose time changes based on sunrise times in Winnsboro, South Carolina.

If you can, move your device outdoors or to a place with a view of outside through a window or open door. But you can be anywhere on any device, becaue nature is everywhere and we are nature.

Our 15 minutes bird mindfulness practices include birds (duh), the rising sun, readings, reflections, silence, science, and multispecies nature pratices. You can attend live or watch the recording. Our hope is to build a restorative and transformative community.

 BIRDING
FOR LIFE

In-person walks with LoraKim Joyner in northern South Carolina

Watching birds can lead to greater human satisfaction, happiness, and health. By being aware of birds, we can also grow our ability to focus and to rest in the current moment, as well as grow our compassion and justice centered behaviors to help care for ourselves, others, and the planet.
