On Saturday, May 17th, we had a 4.5 hour online marathon celebrating the conclusion of the 2024-25 Bilingual Parrot Conservation Corps with the presentation of the participants’ mini-projects. Each participant of this year-long course was encouraged to design, carry out, and report on a parrot conservation project that helped them enact transformative parrot conservation. They were each given a small grant to support their project. Twenty different projects were presented by leaders from 13 countries across four continents including Argentina, Austria, Cameroon, Guatemala, France, Honduras, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Switzerland, and the United States.

Most projects emphasized some aspect of education and awareness activities, and there were also projects on DNA research, population and nest monitoring, ecotourism, and documentary film production.

You can access the recordings of these presentations and also the schedule of presentations here.
What was so impressive was the large impact of these projects with relatively little financial resources allocated for them. This proves that individuals can make huge differences by taking small steps in local communities and in networks of communities around the world.

We are continuing this work by currently facilitating our first National Parrot Conservation Corps in the country of Honduras, where we had 90 people attend the first webinar. We are also continuing this learning and community building with monthly Transformative Conservation Conversations. Our next one is Saturday, May 24 at 1 p.m. EDT with Catriona Sanderlinds on the topic:Â Queer Nature, Ecology, and Conservation. Please register here if you are interested.
Congratulations Conservationists for bringing hope and enacting transformation!
